Mission
Document ID: EXEC-002 Version: 1.0.0 Status: Draft Owner: Wovyr AI Platform Team Last Updated: 2026-06-26
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”This document defines the mission of the Wovyr AI Platform.
While the Vision describes where the platform is going, the Mission defines what the project does every day to achieve that vision.
Every feature, architectural decision, engineering milestone, and community initiative should support this mission.
Mission Statement
Section titled “Mission Statement”Build an open, modular, secure, and enterprise-grade AI platform that enables developers and organizations to create intelligent autonomous systems using modern software engineering principles rather than ad hoc AI integrations.
Problem Statement
Section titled “Problem Statement”Today’s AI application ecosystem presents several recurring challenges:
- AI infrastructure is fragmented across many independent tools.
- Workflow orchestration, memory, LLM integration, observability, and security are often assembled manually.
- Existing frameworks frequently emphasize prompt orchestration while leaving production concerns to application developers.
- Vendor lock-in limits portability across AI providers and deployment environments.
- Enterprise requirements such as auditing, governance, security, and scalability are often secondary considerations.
Wovyr AI Platform aims to provide an integrated foundation that addresses these challenges while remaining modular and extensible.
Mission Objectives
Section titled “Mission Objectives”The platform will pursue the following objectives.
1. Developer Productivity
Section titled “1. Developer Productivity”Enable developers to build sophisticated AI systems with minimal boilerplate.
Success indicators:
- Simple project initialization
- Clear APIs
- Comprehensive SDKs
- Strong documentation
- Reusable components
2. Enterprise Readiness
Section titled “2. Enterprise Readiness”Provide capabilities expected in production environments.
Including:
- Authentication
- Authorization
- Audit logging
- Multi-tenancy
- Secrets management
- Monitoring
- Disaster recovery
3. Reliability
Section titled “3. Reliability”Every AI workflow should be:
- Durable
- Recoverable
- Observable
- Repeatable
The platform should tolerate infrastructure failures while preserving workflow integrity whenever feasible.
4. Modularity
Section titled “4. Modularity”Every subsystem should be independently replaceable.
Examples include:
- LLM providers
- Vector databases
- Storage backends
- Authentication providers
- Messaging systems
- Plugin implementations
This enables organizations to adopt only the components they require.
5. Open Ecosystem
Section titled “5. Open Ecosystem”Encourage community participation through:
- Open governance
- Plugin development
- Shared templates
- Workflow libraries
- Documentation contributions
Strategic Priorities
Section titled “Strategic Priorities”The platform prioritizes the following engineering investments.
Priority 1
Section titled “Priority 1”A reliable Rust runtime.
Priority 2
Section titled “Priority 2”A durable workflow engine capable of long-running, recoverable executions.
Priority 3
Section titled “Priority 3”A flexible AI runtime supporting multiple reasoning patterns and providers.
Priority 4
Section titled “Priority 4”A powerful plugin framework with clear extension points and permission boundaries.
Priority 5
Section titled “Priority 5”A cloud-native operational model that supports local development, on-premises deployments, and Kubernetes environments.
Guiding Principles
Section titled “Guiding Principles”Rust First
Section titled “Rust First”Critical runtime components should be implemented in Rust to emphasize safety, performance, and predictable resource usage.
Standards Before Convenience
Section titled “Standards Before Convenience”Prefer established standards and well-defined interfaces over proprietary protocols.
Examples include:
- OpenAPI
- gRPC
- OAuth 2.0
- OpenTelemetry
API First
Section titled “API First”All platform capabilities should be accessible through stable, documented APIs.
Public interfaces are treated as long-term contracts.
Plugin First
Section titled “Plugin First”New functionality should be implemented as extensions whenever practical instead of increasing the complexity of the platform core.
Cloud Native
Section titled “Cloud Native”Every component should support:
- Containers
- Kubernetes
- Horizontal scaling
- Health probes
- Metrics
- Distributed deployment
Secure by Default
Section titled “Secure by Default”Default configurations should favor secure operation.
Examples:
- Least privilege
- Encrypted communication
- Secrets isolation
- Signed plugins
- Comprehensive auditing
Engineering Principles
Section titled “Engineering Principles”The engineering organization follows these architectural approaches where they add value:
- Clean Architecture
- Hexagonal Architecture
- Domain-Driven Design
- Event-Driven Architecture
- CQRS (selectively)
- Event Sourcing (where appropriate)
- SOLID principles
Target Outcomes
Section titled “Target Outcomes”Within five years, Wovyr AI Platform aims to provide:
- A production-ready workflow engine
- A provider-agnostic LLM gateway
- A reusable AI runtime
- Enterprise memory services
- Distributed execution capabilities
- A visual workflow designer
- A plugin marketplace
- SDKs for multiple programming languages
- Strong documentation and examples
Measures of Success
Section titled “Measures of Success”Technical measures:
- Stable public APIs
- Predictable workflow execution
- High test coverage
- Low operational overhead
- Clear observability
Community measures:
- Active contributors
- Plugin ecosystem growth
- Documentation quality
- Adoption by organizations
- Educational content and tutorials
The mission encompasses:
- Workflow orchestration
- AI runtime services
- Memory management
- Tool execution
- Plugin infrastructure
- SDKs
- APIs
- Dashboard
- CLI
- Deployment tooling
The mission does not include:
- Training foundation language models
- Operating proprietary AI services
- Replacing specialized data processing platforms
- Building a cloud-exclusive product
Decision Framework
Section titled “Decision Framework”When evaluating future proposals, contributors should consider:
- Does this align with the Vision?
- Does it improve developer experience?
- Does it strengthen modularity?
- Can it operate in enterprise environments?
- Does it preserve platform portability?
- Does it maintain security and observability?
- Can it be maintained over the long term?
If the answer to multiple questions is “no”, the proposal should be reconsidered.
Relationship to Other Documents
Section titled “Relationship to Other Documents”This document should be read together with:
- README.md
- SUMMARY.md
- Vision
- Product Requirements Document
- Architecture Overview
- Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
Together, these documents define the strategic direction that all implementation work should follow.
